FAT ADAPTATION

Before exogenous ketones was available, the initial switch to a KETOGENIC diet was the biggest issue to new dieters. Before you body is adapted, common side effects to switching to a ketogenic diet was weakness and fatigue from lack of carbs.keto-foods

These two reasons caused people to quit the diet before they get into full ketosis to reap the many long term benefits. So obviously your workouts in the gym will suffer temporarily. Many ketogenic dieters state that their performance returns to normal after several weeks.

Well here is the revolutionary part. You no longer have to suffer to be strict on your diet to reap the benefits of keto. The fact that you can now drink a serving of keto//os and put yourself into actually ketosis is crazy. Say goodbye to those 12-16 week diets to get ready for a show, now it should only take 4-8 weeks.

Just because you are low carb does not mean your in ketosis. The number of carbs varies from person to person, which brings up the necessity to test to verify that you are in the state of ketosis by either a urine test strip, blood test of breath test.

If you just do low carb for too long and never reach ketosis you are really just in a catabolic state where like most guys are scared of muscle then you are losing muscle and your flat and skinny, no pump. Muscle wasting. FLAT-Here’s where being able to supplement with exogenous ketones comes into play. People complain that when low on carbs, you become flat, cant get a pump and feel skinny, hence why after you have a cheat meal or reefed, and your glycogen levels refill, you feel pumped beyond belief.

Well taking exogenous ketones gives me the best of both worlds. I am able to build muscle but still burn fat, kind of like what certain steroids do. All I do is time my servings of keto.

You skip the adapting phase. The phase where you are weaker, more tired and feel like shit due to a lack of carbs, because until you reach ketosis or until your body adapts to fat as its fuel source, most people feel like shit and ultimately give up. Because once you are actually in Ketosis, ask people who have been there, life is magically. Your energy seems to last infinitely, your metabolism/fatburning is rocking because your body is only using your fat for energy.

PREVIOUS DEBATES, which I agreed with until the option of exogenous ketones came into play less than a year ago. I personally never wanted to try to go into keto for the fear of losing muscle. Once your into keto that’s great, but until you get there, muscle wasting scared me.

Lets face it you went low to zero carb for 3-4 days(CARB CYCLING)  to maximize fat burning, and who knows if you were actually in ketosis unless you were testing for it. Only thing is until you reach the state of ketosis, you were graducally becoming flatter and catabolic until you reach the state of ketosis. Then what most people do on the 4rth or 5th day you would have a cheat or refeed to raise letptin levels back up (tricking your metabolism) to burn fat again.

Heres why keto//os is a game changer. I am in keto for 22 out of the 24 hours of a day every single day. Being able to consume exogenous ketones has changed everything that you thought possible. I burn fat essentially all day and I consume mass amounts of carbs post workout for a 3 hour window and depending on my lifting schedule also in the morning.

What I do postworkout, is I take in about 100 grams of fast carbs to put the glycogen back into my body to feed and repair my muscles for new growth. And then I have a big meal a hour and a half aftwards to top off the muscle building process. See in this time window,  when I knock myself out of ketosis with these two meals, my body isn’t storing the exact food as fat right away. Then!!!!!! I take a serving of keto which takes 30min to an hour to put myself back into ketosis. You see, I have the best of both worlds. I utilize my time windows to fill up my glycogen levels so I am contributing to muscle growth and fullness, and then I take exogenous ketones to stay in fat burning mode. You see, this wasn’t even possible a year ago.

In a traditionally nutritional sense once you knock yourself out of ketosis which could be as little as 50 carbs (verify with tests) you then have to start the process over of another 3-4 days or whoever long it takes you to get back into ketosis.

It allows me to do things that only steroids could do but better.

LIFTINGpruvit

When I lift while being in the state of ketosis I have set numerous pr’s lately. Reason being, when in the state of ketosis, your body produces a lot more ATP.  Release of energy is far greater in ketosis (129ATP vs 38 ATP) between fat and carb macronutrients.

RUNNING

The KD group had significant increases in the relative values of (VO2 max) and oxygen uptake at lactate threshold (VO2 LT) after the KD.

Ever since I started competing and just life in general, I hated and feared running. It was just to high impact (high intensity) for me where it raised my heart rate outside of my fat burning zone, that I just never ran for fear or losing muscle instead of muscle fat. Hence why I am a huge fan of incline treadmill walking or stair master because I am able to keep my heartrate for me between (120-130 heartbeats per minute) to maximize fat oxidation.

Well taking exogenous ketones changes standard protocol. I take a serving of keto//os to enter ketosis within one hour. Once in ketosis, muscle preservation is elevated to the max, hence I don’t mind running now, because I know I will not lose any muscle do to being in KETOSIS.  My vO2 max (maximal oxygen uptake) is severely increased so I suck in oxygen at double my normal rate, my ATP production is thru the roof giving me just ultimate power and endurance.

APPETITE SUPPRESSION-normally when you don’t eat for a long period of time, your metabolism slows down and you become catabolic, and well tired from lack of fuel source. Well…when in ketosis, its actually best to just wait and to eat only until your hungry, because when in ketosis

BRAIN COGNITIVITYimg_6843_zpsgmv4qkry

Your brain functions better off of fat. Your focus is laser sharp. There is no brain fog like there is when you have carbs (food coma).
